body shape diagnostic

Complete Togometry's Body Shape Diagnostic and learn how to dress your body's front and side profiles, proportions and features.

Descriptions such as apples, pears, and hourglasses help us understand our body shape, but the female body is a lot more complicated!

Body characteristics that need to be considered when dressing your shape include not only your shape as viewed from the front but also as viewed from the side. The length of your torso in relation to your legs and other characteristics such as your height, neck, ankles and bone structure are also key.

The combination of these will determine which cuts and silhouettes are the most flattering and where the hems of your skirts, jackets, tops and sleeves should end.

1/18 Shoulder to Hip Ratio

Which image best represents the width of your shoulders compared with the widest part of your hips?

TIP: Stand facing a full length mirror, wearing close fitting like leggings and a body hugging top. Observe the outline of your body at the outer edge and compare the widest part of your shoulders and hips.

2/18 Widest part of Hips

Which image best represents the widest part of your hips?

TIP: We need to determine if the upper or lower part of your hip is widest as this can make a difference to the best style of skirts and trousers for you. (Thank you to Imogen Lamport of ‘Inside Out Style’ for her work on the high hip body shape).

Let your fingers follow the contour of your throat and count the number fingers until one touches just above you collar bone. This works better if you are sitting or standing upright with your chin horizontal. (Thank you to Imogen Lamport of 'Inside Out Style' for this handy tip on how to work out your neck length).

9/18 Body Balance

Are you short-waisted, long-waisted or equally balanced?

TIP: To determine your body balance, place your flat hand (including thumb) horizontally at the base and snugly under your bust. Next place the other hand underneath the first hand and see if the lowest part of your second hand finishes above, below or at the line of your waist. This works better if you are sitting or standing upright with a straight back. (Thank you to Imogen Lamport, ‘Inside Out Style’, for this easy tip on how to discover your body balance). Does the bottom of your second hand finish above, below or at the line of your waist?
